WE HAVE SPECIALIZED IN RESTORATION AND PRESERVATION SINCE 1995
The objective of the restoration process is to stabilize the documents(s), book(s), etc. so that they may be preserved for the future. Repairs are made utilizing similar products to maintain the basic appearance, with leather or paper generally made in the same period of the item(s) being restored.
The restoration process performed by The History Shop includes—assessment of work to be accomplished based on how the document(s), book(s), map(s) will be used, handled and stored; adding moisture to brittle pages or documents; repairing tears, adding headbands, spine support, reattaching detached pages, adding end pages at the front and back of the respective book(s), and reattaching the book covers to the text. Written records as well as photographs of our work are maintained on each piece.
All chemicals and materials used in the restoration process meet acceptable archival standards.
