Description
Authentic Victorian woven-silk portrait of H.R.H. Prince Alfred Ernest Albert-Queen Victoria’s second son-shown as a young Royal Navy midshipman. This is a Dalton & Barton (Coventry) Jacquard-woven silk dated 1861, not a later “Stevengraph.” The arched mount carries the printed title “ENGLAND’S ROYAL SAILOR – H.R.H. Prince Alfred Ernest Albert.” Along the woven lower margin are the original credits: “R. BARTON – MESSRS DALTON & BARTON MANFRS – COVENTRY 1861.”
