Description
This exquisite 1913 real photo postcard by Gustav Liersch & Co. features a hand-tinted portrait of an elegant young woman adorned in a wide-brimmed hat decorated with pink flowers and a soft yellow wrap. A striking example of early 20th-century European glamour photography, the postcard embodies the romantic Art Nouveau aesthetic popular in pre-WWI continental Europe.
Printed in Germany and distributed to Belgium, this card remains unposted but bears an original Belgian 1 centime orange stamp in the upper-right corner. The back features a handwritten French message: “Toujours à toi Maxi, qui t’aime pour la vie” (“Always to you Maxi, who loves you for life”), suggesting the card was either gifted or delivered in person. It is addressed to Mlle Camille Thonet, Rue d’Or 37, written in elegant script.
The front includes the Gustav Liersch “GK” monogram and the card’s catalog number, 4684/14. The style, color, and composition suggest it may have depicted a well-known actress or model of the period, though the subject is not identified.
