Description
Original Curt Teich C.T. Art-Colortone linen postcard titled “DINNERTIME” with stock number S.524 and production code 6A-H456 printed on the card—placing first issue in 1936. This example was mailed from Sanford, North Carolina in 1950 with the correct 1¢ George Washington (1938 Presidential/Prexie, Scott 804) postcard rate. Addressed to Mrs. W. A. Newbold, 48 Broad St., Mt. Holly, N.J. The handwritten note opens “My own dearest—,” mentions being in Sanford, N.C. around 12½ PM, comments on the scene, and notes grabbing a sandwich and coffee before an affectionate close.
Historical/Content Note: Some people consider that the front image uses racist watermelon stereotyping common in U.S. mass-market postcards of the era. We present it for documentation and study of American visual culture and printing history.
