Description
Striking WWII patriotic cover featuring the cartoon cachet “KEEP BOMBING BERLIN ‘TIL THIS GOOSE IS COOKED” at lower left, identified A & K No. 3. Postmarked Detroit, Michigan, Apr 8, 1944 and franked with the 3¢ Win the War stamp (Scott #905). Addressed to Pharm. J. N. Lawrence, Dispensary, U.S. Naval Repair Base, San Diego 36, California. Reverse bears printed return address for Mrs. Iva Donaldson, Highland Park, Mich.-a known Detroit-area patriotic cachet figure. In my research I could not locate another example of this exact A & K No. 3 “goose/Berlin” design online, which suggests a small-run cachet and adds to its appeal for WWII patriotic, Detroit postal history, and Naval Repair Base collectors.
