Striking WWII patriotic cover from Ironwood, Michigan-heart of the Upper Peninsula iron range-postmarked January 10, 1945 and addressed to APO 986 (Aleutian theater). The locally produced cachet by John L. Garland (signed J.L.G.3) shows a headframe with the slogan “A SALUTE TO MINING PRODUCING THE DRESS AND MINERALS FOR VICTORY.” Franked with a solo 3¢ “Win the War” (Scott 905), the correct domestic rate of the period. Excellent crossover appeal for patriotic, Michigan, mining, Aleutians/11th Fighter Squadron, and Cinderella collectors.
