Description
Late-war patriotic cover with a witty bar cartoon: “Here we enjoy TAPS!”-the waitress’s skirt flips up in the breeze, giving this a pin-up/cheesecake twist that appeals to WWII, beer/bar-topic, and pin-up collectors alike. Postmarked New Haven, Indiana, JUN 22, 1945 (just after VE-Day) and franked with the 3¢ “Win the War” (Scott 905). Addressed to Naval Hospital Staff, San Diego, Calif., adding light Navy/medical crossover interest. Pencil “LUPTON” on the back suggests attribution to Walter “East Coast Lefty” Lupton, a known WWII patriotic cachet artist.
