Description
A desirable 1953 first edition of Kinetics and Mechanism: A Study of Homogeneous Chemical Reactions by Arthur A. Frost and Ralph G. Pearson, this is an important early chemistry text from the original form of a work that was later revised into a 1961 second edition and a 1981 third edition. Pearson later became especially well known for the HSAB concept, and UCSB notes that his books, including Kinetics and Mechanisms, helped train generations of chemists.
* Original first-edition cloth binding with “First Edition” on the spine
* Strong academic provenance with ownership to the Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn, historically tied to 99 Livingston Street and known under that name from 1889 to 1973
* Includes vintage handwritten scientific notes laid in, adding period academic character
* A meaningful copy for collectors of chemistry, history of science, and mid-century technical books
* More interesting than a standard later textbook copy because of the early issue, the Pearson connection, and the Brooklyn institutional association
This is a solid, appealing first edition for the collector or end user who wants an early Frost-Pearson copy with real academic context. Original science books with honest period provenance have a particular charm, and this one presents well as both a working reference and a shelf-worthy piece of chemistry history.
