Offered here are two original real photo postcards (RPPCs) by noted Swiss photographer A. Demartines of Photo Hall, Mürren, capturing an early ice hockey match against a stunning Alpine backdrop.
Each postcard features the same group of eight to nine men dressed in a variety of early hockey attire-knickerbockers, gloves, knee pads, and shin guards-posing or preparing for play. One card shows eight players with a crowd of spectators in the background, while the other presents nine players in formation, all set before the same pair of buildings and snow-covered mountains.
Both postcards are divided back format, placing them circa 1907-1925, likely around the 1910s to early 1920s. These images are a rare and striking visual record of the early history of ice hockey in Europe, especially in Mürren, a premier winter sports destination of the era.
