Antique circa-1910 edition of Charles Dickens’s Christmas Stories, published in New York by the A. L. Burt Company as part of its Home Library series. This early American collected edition includes Dickens’s immortal holiday classic A Christmas Carol.
The book retains its original maroon cloth hardcover binding with gilt spine lettering. Its striking frontispiece depicts Ebenezer Scrooge speaking with Bob Cratchit and reproduces the celebrated 1878 illustration by important Victorian Dickens illustrator Fred Barnard.
The A. L. Burt Company imprint and 52-58 Duane Street address date this edition to the opening years of the 20th century. A handwritten Brooklyn Heights ownership inscription dated January 1911 establishes that the book was already in circulation by that time.
