Description
Authentic early real photo postcard capturing a dramatic scene from the Vanderbilt Cup Race era, showing a race car in motion approaching from the distance with spectators lining the roadside. The printed caption in the lower corner reads: “The run from East Norwich to Brookville,” directly identifying this segment as part of the original public-road course used during the earliest years of the famous Long Island races.
This RPPC features an undivided back, placing its production firmly before March 1, 1907-likely during or shortly after the inaugural races of 1904-1906. The photographic quality, combined with the location-specific caption and live-action content, makes this an exceptionally rare survivor from the earliest chapter of American motorsports history.
Unlike many posed or later-issued postcards, this card documents a real moment on the open road, where early racecars sped past dangerously close spectators on unpaved country routes. Very few photographic postcards from this period feature live race action, especially in rural Long Island settings like East Norwich and Brookville, which were key course points before the Long Island Motor Parkway was constructed.
This card is in very good condition for its age, with light corner wear. A true gem for collectors of early auto racing, Long Island history, or rare transportation ephemera.
