Description
Offered here is an original oil on canvas painting titled Eye of God, signed and dated 1972 by the artist Murel Baron. This evocative mid-century work portrays a seated woman in traditional dress weaving an Ojo de Dios-or “God’s Eye”-a spiritual yarn object symbolizing vision and protection in many indigenous Mexican and Southwestern cultures.
This piece is a striking example of early 1970s regional folk art. The artist’s handwritten note on the back confirms the title, medium, and date:
“Eye of God / original oil by Murel Baron ’72”
Another inscription notes:
“No final varnish Feb. ’72”
The subject, setting, and vivid woven motif reflect a strong connection to cultural tradition, making this a meaningful addition to any collection of folk art, Native American-inspired work, or Southwestern themes. The painting was done on stretched canvas over a marked Grumbacher 16×20 wooden stretcher.

Condition notes:
There is visible surface wear, most notably several areas of paint loss in the lower portion near the woven object (see close-up photos). The canvas was never varnished, which leaves the surface more vulnerable to abrasion. Despite this, the image remains compelling and structurally sound.
