Scarce vintage Catholic devotional badge honoring Mother Mary Electa of Christ, D.C. (1897-1969), Discalced Carmelite nun and longtime prioress of the Carmel of Brooklyn, New York.
The badge incorporates a small square fragment of Mother Mary Electa’s clothing, mounted beside her black-and-white portrait. The reverse explicitly identifies the material as “Clothing of Mother Mary Electa of Christ” and records her association with the Brooklyn Carmel.
Mother Mary Electa served as prioress of the Brooklyn Carmel from 1948 until her death in 1969. Her spiritual life was later commemorated in the 1972 biography Behold a Little Cloud Rising from the Sea.
