Description

A rare and possibly unique signed copy of Fascinated. Ein Amerikaner entdeckt die neuen Bundesländer (1998) by Richard Carleton Crisler Jr., accompanied by a 20-page typed manuscript and an introductory page dated shortly after the book’s release. This hardcover edition-issued by Berlin publisher edition q-documents the author’s extensive photographic journey through post-reunification East Germany. The book is inscribed on the front endpaper:

“November 26, 1998 / For Gasser / With Best personal wishes, / Crisler”

Tipped inside the front cover is a 20-page typed document beginning with:

“In the afternoon of Wednesday, December 16th, 1989, five weeks after the fall of the Berlin Wall, the publisher of my first book, photographs of France and Italy, said to me, ‘Richard, schnell mal rĂĽber.'”

In the upper right corner of the introduction, the name “Gasser” is written in pencil-strongly suggesting this was a presentation copy or personally gifted version of the book, possibly with unpublished narrative content related to Crisler’s journey and artistic process. This unique pairing adds significant historical and collectible value, especially for those interested in American perspectives on East Germany during the pivotal 1990s.
