Description
Original 1939 Verve Vol. II, Nos. 5-6 bifolium from the “La figure humaine” special double number directed by Tériade. Printed in rich black photogravure (heliogravure) on wove stock. Recto shows a dramatic eight-image spread of classical portrait heads; the verso of the right leaf presents four medieval/Gothic heads. Image credits in the margin read “PHOTOS GIRAUDON,” identifying the historic Paris photo archive that supplied the sculpture photographs. Removed from the binding with the center fold and sewing-nick gutter intact; even edge toning and minor handling consistent with age. Authentic 1939 production-not a modern reprint-and ready to mat or frame.
