Front side: crucifix features black inlay along the arms of the cross, and the traditional symbols of the holy Gospel writers. They are, The Eagle, The Winged Man, The Winged Ox, and The Winged Lion.
The eagle represents the heavenly aspects of John’s Gospel, the winged man the humanity of Christ of Matthew’s, the ox is the sacrificial nature of Jesus’ becoming flesh of Luke’s writings, and the lion the kingly aspects shown in Mark.
The skull at the base of the cross in the image is traditionally interpreted as representing the skull of Adam. According to Christian tradition, Jesus was crucified at Golgotha, which means “the place of the skull” in Aramaic. Some believe this is the same location where Adam, the first man, was buried. Therefore, the presence of the skull symbolizes Jesus’s sacrifice atoning for the sins of humanity, starting with Adam’s original sin.
Back side: features images of “Via Crucis” which translates to “Way of the Cross”. It refers to a series of 14 stations depicting key events of Jesus’s journey to Calvary, commonly practiced as a devotional exercise, often during Lent or on Good Friday
