Description

Striking WWII-era satirical cover created and sent by William A. Temple (W.A.T.) of Des Moines, Iowa, in 1944, featuring a bold anti-Hitler cachet:

“Der Only Cure For Der Fuehrer!”
with artwork showing a shocked Hitler confronting a noose – a biting piece of American wartime propaganda.

What makes this example especially unique is the use of the 1944 3¢ “50th Anniversary of Motion Pictures” stamp (Scott #926), which was valid for international surface mail to Canada and is less commonly seen on wartime political covers.

Postmarked Des Moines, Iowa, and addressed to John Wm. Trevor at Trinity Church, Halifax, Nova Scotia, a city critical to Allied Atlantic operations. The reverse bears Temple’s return address stamp: 5136 Ingersoll Ave, Des Moines.

This cover stands out as a convergence of WWII satire, postal history, and early American film commemoration.
