Description

Original 17th-century copperplate engraving of Robert van den Hoecke (1622-1668) from Cornelis de Bie’s celebrated Het Gulden Cabinet (Antwerp, 1661/62). Engraved by Cornelis van Caukercken after Gonzales Coques, this is the numbered portrait Plate 59, with the credits “A. Coques pinxit / C. Caukercken sculpsit” in the caption. The sitter holds palette and brushes beside a plan-attributes that refer to his dual roles as painter and Contrôleur des fortifications in Flanders. Nicely presented under glass in a later frame and ready to hang.
