Description
Original 1888 Boston hotel advertising cover with matching illustrated letterhead enclosure from The Quincy / Quincy House, Boston. The envelope is postmarked Boston, Mass., Jan. 7, 1888, and addressed to Mrs. W. H. Lawrence, Waterville, Oneida Co., N.Y. The reverse has a Waterville, N.Y. receiving backstamp dated Jan. 9, 1888.
The cover bears a 2¢ green Washington stamp, consistent with Scott #213, tied by the Boston duplex cancel. The illustrated advertising design promotes The Quincy as offering American and European Plans with 500 rooms, under J. W. Johnson & Co. / Geo. G. Mann.
This is a strong 19th-century Boston hotel and postal-history piece because it includes the original matching illustrated stationery, not just the outer cover. The handwritten letter is signed “Willie” and includes period references to Tremont Temple and breweries at Roslindale, giving it added Boston social, religious, and brewing-history interest.

Condition: Cover shows age toning, soiling, scattered foxing, edge wear, softened corners, and small tears/wear at the flap/left edge area. Letter has fold lines and typical handling wear from mailing and storage. The hotel illustration remains attractive and displayable, and the complete cover-and-letter pairing gives the item strong collector appeal.
