Offered here is a rare and historically significant airmail cover commemorating the inaugural flight of Contract Airmail Route No. 1 (CAM-1), which officially launched on July 1, 1926. This particular example originated in Hartford, Connecticut, as indicated by the clear 6:30 AM postmark, and was carried to Boston, Massachusetts, arriving the same day with a matching July 1, 11:00 AM backstamp from the Boston General Post Office.
This cover is addressed to Mr. J.C. Morgan, Parnassus, Pennsylvania, and bears two 5¢ stamps-correct for the airmail rate of the time. Above the stamps is a crisp oval ink stamp from Hartford, and an additional “To Boston” routing stamp on the front. Inside the envelope is a stiff card insert, likely added to maintain structure or commemorate the flight.
What makes this cover especially desirable is its connection to the very first U.S. commercial airmail service operated under private contract.
