Description

Original Eastern Illustrating & Publishing Co. real photo postcard showing a classic bird’s-eye view of Brookfield, Vermont with the caption “Birds Eye View, Brookfield, Vt. 129.” Mailed from Brookfield in 1928 with the correct 1¢ Benjamin Franklin (Scott 552) paying the restored 1¢ postcard rate. Eastern’s Belfast, Maine imprint appears on the back, confirming this as an authentic EIPCo road-crew photograph, not a later reprint. There’s a tiny dark speck in the sky at upper left-almost certainly a bird caught mid-flight (a charming period detail). Please view all photos.

Why it’s desirable: Small-town Vermont EIPCo view with early streetscape/buildings; properly used 1928 mailing; Eastern negative number present; original-not a modern copy

Condition notes: Light handling/edge wear consistent with age; good contrast and legible caption; back clean with short message to Hartford, CT. No repairs. See photos for your assessment.

Rarity & value: Eastern small-town Vermont scenes are collected and do not surface constantly; identical views do appear occasionally, with recent comps in the ~$20-$40 range depending on sharpness and condition. This example presents well with clear maker marks and 1928 use.
