Description
Original WWII patriotic cover mailed FREE from the U.S. Marine Corps base at Quantico, VA, with a bold black cartoon cachet and the famous Marine motto “THE MARINES HAVE LANDED! – AND HAVE THE SITUATION WELL IN HAND -.” Circular QUANTICO, VA / MARINE BRANCH cancel dated AUG 9, 1943 with machine wavy lines. Upper left bears the sender’s manuscript, “Pfc. H. Watson, U.S. Marine Air Corps.” Addressed to Hartford, Connecticut. This slogan is known on WWII patriotic cachets (often attributed to Lupton/”Marines Have Landed” series); this specific artwork variant is much less commonly seen than the Boone designs and is a standout for any USMC or base-mail collection.
