Description
This WWII home-front Special Delivery cover was mailed Council Bluffs, Iowa, JUL 17, 1943 to Kansas City, Missouri (Zone 2). The multicolor “Join the Silence Squad” Artists for Victory poster label (Roswell Brown) sits in a star-spangled Special Delivery patriotic border. Correct 13¢ franking for the period-3¢ letter + 10¢ special-delivery-paid by three 1¢ National Defense (Scott #899) and two 5¢ Overrun Countries-Poland flags (Scott #909), an appealing early use just weeks after #909’s issue. Front shows four Council Bluffs CDS postmarks and two purple double-oval “SPECIAL DELIVERY” handstamps; reverse bears a clear KANSAS CITY, MO REC’D JUL 17, 1943 11:30 PM backstamp, confirming same-day delivery. The boxed “FEE CLAIMED BY OFFICE OF FIRST ADDRESS” marking completes the service story. No printed cachet-maker imprint on the back; the border is unattributed, while the poster label is credited to Artists for Victory.
