Original WWII patriotic cover postmarked Boston, Mass., Jan 24, 1945, with machine slogan “BUY U.S. SAVINGS BONDS / ASK YOUR POSTMASTER.” Franked with the 3¢ Steamship Savannah commemorative (Scott 923), marking the 125th anniversary of the first steam-assisted transatlantic crossing. At left is the green cartoon cachet reading “OUCH! Himmler shoots Herr Hitler…”, signed G.H.A. (George H. Abel). Addressed to Philadelphia 11, Pa. (postal zone era). Reverse bears the purple return handstamp of John F. Sweet, 38 Clark Lane, Waltham, Mass.
Included is the original typed memorandum dated Jan 29, 1945 from John F. Sweet to the addressee-a vivid home-front letter about wartime shortages and government policy, adding real social-history depth beyond the philatelic elements.
