Description
Striking WWII patriotic airmail cover mailed Pottstown, Pennsylvania, MAY 5, 1945-just days before VE-Day. Brown ink cartoon cachet shows Hitler blasted sky-high by converging “rays” labeled PATTON, IKE, HODGES, MONTY, FREE FRANCE, RUSSIA. An onionskin lightweight airmail envelope addressed to Sharpsville, Indiana, with a clean machine cancel. The lower left has a small printed “SAM”; there are additional small letters at lower right, but the cachet maker remains unidentified.
*
Stamps: 2¢ John Adams (Prexie, Scott #806) + 6¢ John Quincy Adams (Prexie, Scott #811) = 8¢, correctly paying the domestic airmail rate in 1945
*
Cachet: anti-Hitler victory cartoon; I have not located this exact design elsewhere-likely a small local/private production
*
Back: rubber-stamped return “PAUL J. MILLER, 48 WEST 6th ST., POTTSTOWN, PA.”
*
Condition: light handling typical of onionskin; clear cancel tying both stamps; no maker imprint-please view all photos
