Description

Early post-WWII event cover franked with three 1¢ FDR (Scott #930) and canceled Buffalo, N.Y., Aug 1, 1945-the very day designated “Army Air Force Day.” Addressed to Cpl. D. C. Conner, 11th Fighter Squadron, A.P.O. 980 (Seattle Postmaster routing for Aleutians service). Cachet at left reads “Army Air Force Day” with a purple winged-prop emblem. My search did not turn up this exact Buffalo 1945 cachet, suggesting a locally produced, short-run design.

*

Day-of “Army Air Force Day” usage with clear Buffalo circular date stamp

*

Three 1¢ FDR #930s used less than a week after issue; correct 3¢ letter rate

*

Military destination: 11th Fighter Squadron / APO 980-strong unit interest

*

Uncommon two-color “Army Air Force Day” cachet; identical example not found in my search

*

Cross-collectible: WWII patriotics, Air Forces, FDR commemoratives, APO mail

Condition: Clean and presentable with light postal wear, faint toning/handling and minor cancel rub as shown. Please view all photos for the best assessment. Combined shipping offered on covers.
