Classic small-town street scene titled “4-Water Street, Newark Valley, N.Y.” showing storefronts and late-’20s/early-’30s autos. Mailed Aug 22, 1933 to Wethersfield, Connecticut. Franked with the 1933 Chicago World’s Fair “Century of Progress – Fort Dearborn” 1¢ (Scott #728)-a year-of-issue usage that fits the 1¢ postcard rate in 1933. Auxiliary straight-line dater reads “T281 AUG 22 1933.” Message adds local flavor: “Hello Bill: The old town is the same; only a few relatives remain. Yours, Jennie.” No maker’s imprint visible on the back (some variants of this view are known as Saxton images).
