Wartime U.S. Navy “FREE” mail from the U.S. Naval Training Station, Newport, Rhode Island, with the corner-card for Co. 1365, SK (Storekeeper) School. The striking black cachet shows large naval guns with a border naming ship types; the image is thermographed (raised, glossy ink-see angled photos). Addressed in pencil to Long Island City 3, N.Y., placing usage in the 1943-45 period when city zones were in effect. Reverse bears a partial U.S. Navy circular dater.
