Description
Original chromolithograph after Alexander Pope Jr. (1849-1924), printed “Chromo-lith. by L. Prang & Co., Boston, 1880” at lower left with the printed script “A. Pope Jr.” at lower right. The image depicts three cropped-ear, white bull-terrier-type dogs (one with liver patches) posed by a rustic split-rail fence-an iconic subject from the Pope/Prang collaborations and a fine example of late-Victorian American color printing.

Why it’s desirable
Pope’s dog plates are cornerstone images for sporting-art collectors, and Prang was Boston’s premier color-printer of the era. This 1880 impression combines a sought-after three-dog composition with a clearly dated imprint and visible artist credit-display-ready, historically interesting, and increasingly hard to find in strong color.
