Historic WWII U.S. Army Postal Service cover from APO 709-the XIV Corps post office serving the Guadalcanal area-dated October 10, 1943. The envelope bears a bold circular A.P.O. cancel, a clear “PASSED BY ARMY EXAMINER” handstamp with censor signature, and a manuscript “7¢” postage-due notation, indicating it was unfranked (no valid postage or “FREE” endorsement). Addressed stateside to Hartford, Connecticut, with the sender annotated as HQ Btry, 214th Coast Artillery (AA).
At lower left is an eye-catching, embossed red/blue “VICTORY / LIBERTY” patriotic label (cinderella), not valid for postage, distributed by M. J. Huss, Evanston, Illinois-confirmed by the printed line on the back flap. This combination of APO 709 usage, censorship, postage-due rating, and an embossed patriotic cachet makes a strong piece for collectors of Pacific Theater and U.S. military postal history.
