Description
WWII patriotic “Pearl Harbor” postcard with the PenArts black-ink cartoon (artist credit “Milford” at lower edge). Mailed from Council Bluffs, Iowa with machine cancel dated Feb 16, 1944 bearing the wartime slogan “Praise the Lord and Pass the Ammunition.” Franked with the correct 1¢ George Washington “Prexie” (Scott #804, green) for the 1944 postcard rate, cleanly tied.
On the reverse: bold rubber handstamp “COVER NEWS / BOX 185 / COUNCIL BLUFFS, IOWA” plus a handwritten editorial note signed “Johnson.” This matches publisher Clarence W. Johnson of Cover News (Council Bluffs), giving the card strong provenance and suggesting it originated from a small publisher mailing rather than a mass-market issue.
